UN Environment Assembly 2017: Towards a Pollution-Free Planet
Discussion details
On 4-6 December 2017, the third UN Environment Assembly will take place in Nairobi, under the overarching theme "Towards a Pollution-Free Planet".
The Assembly provides a groundbreaking platform for leadership on global environmental policy to drive transformative action for curbing pollution worldwide.
In the run-up to the Assembly, governments, businesses and civil society organisations are invited to make concrete commitments to protect our health and environment, and to register them on the UN Environment Assembly website.
Here are a few examples of the types of commitments that can be made:
• A company that pledges to improve its energy efficiency or replace a harmful product with a better one
• A civil society group that commits to take up pollution as a campaign issue or organize a series of beach clean-ups
• A government that commits to apply sustainable procurement principles or introduce legislation to phase out single-use plastic bags
But you don't have to be a government or an organization to act!
Are you a pollution champion? Are you a pollution hero? Or are you a pollution guru?
Find out by making your own individual pledge on our #BeatPollution website, thereby joining hundreds of thousands of other individuals that already made their pledges. It is empowering and it is fun! Even small contributions can make a difference in our common quest towards a Pollution-Free Planet!
Several consultations were also held in preparation for the Assembly, please follow this link to see a more detailed overview of these events.
