UNIDO, Mexican Government to hold high-level event on energy efficiency at COP16

CANCUN, Mexico, 6 December 2010 – Prioritizing global  action on energy efficiency and its role in the COP16 mitigation  negotiations will be the focus of a high-level event in Cancun on  Wednesday.
The event, which being organized by the United Nations  Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Government of  Mexico, will be opened by Mexican President Felipe Calderon.
Participants  in the high-panel discussion will include Mexico Energy Secretary,  Georgina Kessel; Spanish Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Water,  Rosa Aguilar Rivero; Danish Climate and Energy Minister, Lykke Fris;  Australian Climate and Energy Efficiency Minister, Greg Combet; South  African Energy Minister, Elizabeth Dipuo Peters; World Bank President,  Robert Zoellick; and UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh K. Yumkella. 
Special  guests will include the UN ECE Director-General, Jan Kubis; ECLAC  Executive Secretary, Alicia Barcena; UNDP Administrator, Helen Clark;  UNEP Executive Director, Achim Steiner; Senior Brookings Fellow,  Katherine Sierra; and the President of the UN Foundation, Tim Wirth.
