The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) presented two projects, implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Montenegro, and funded by the Government of Slovenia, showing how economically viable green infrastructure and technology can be used to protect environment, increase employment opportunities and improve the living conditions of people.

In Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, UNIDO will establish a wetland to treat the wastewater from the Selo Mira orphanage and reduce its chemical oxygen demand load reaching Lake Modrac, the source of drinking water for the Tuzla Municipality.

In Mojkovac, Montenegro, a reed bed filter will be built to treat the sludge from the municipal wastewater treatment plant in an environmentally and economically sound way. This will help preserve the tourism resource and contribute to poverty reduction in this region.

The two-day Green Week conference held under the theme “Nature and biodiversity” aims to provide a platform to exchange experience and best practices on environment policy in Europe.

Over 3,000 participants from governmental and international organizations, NGOs, the private sector and financial institutions will discuss topics including job creation through green infrastructure, biodiversity and climate change, investment in green infrastructure and ecosystems as drivers for sustainable growth.
