Unity and integration for peace and security in Africa

To move from an ‘interventionist’ African Union to a ‘preventionist’ one will require a transformation from conflict prevention to addressing the root causes of conflict, fragility and instability. The Regional Economic Communities (RECs) are a practical entry point for promotion of the African Governance Architecture (AGA) agenda at the regional level. The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) could also provide a platform for implementation and evaluation of progress.
