1.    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Junior Programme Associate Policy Briefings will support the content, organization, implementation and follow-up of key activities within the policy work in Brussels as follows.

A) For the Brussels' Development Briefings (http://brusselsbriefings.net):

  • Support to planning, designing and organising 5 to 6 high-level Brussels Development Briefings on issues related to policy in agriculture and rural development in ACP countries. This involves research on the subject for the publication reader (40 pages document summarising the key issues involved, giving resources, links, glossary);
  • Identification of key experts in the area (potential speakers at the Briefings), assisting in drafting the guidelines for their presentation;
  • Drafting the highlights (4/6 pages report);
  • Preparing 4 pages for the Policy Brief of each briefing;
  • Summarising the evaluations of each Brussels' Briefing;
  • Promoting the documents related to the Briefing online and through various means;
  • Monitor impact of these activities.

    B) For the Regional and Continental Briefings:
  • Support to planning, designing and organizing 3 regional briefings on key topics related to agriculture and rural development in ACP countries. This involves research on the subject, liaising with speakers and participants and with the administrative assistant for the logistical part;
  • Assist in drafting the report;
  • Promote the documents related to the Briefings.

    C) For other high-level events:

Support to the organization of high-level panels (such as the European Development Days) in the same way as the Brussels Briefings (content research, communication and promotion).

2. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Education: Master degree in agriculture, economics, finance, IT or related field.
  • Work experience: at least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Professional knowledge & skills:
    • Experience and keen interest in agricultural development issues;
    • Good inter-personal and communication (verbal and written) skills;
    • Good organizational and planning skills;
    • Attention to details;
    • Good computer skills;
    • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, to be flexible and client oriented;
    • Ability to work independently as well as in a team;
    • Highly motivated and results-oriented;
    • Thorough knowledge of English or French and a satisfactory knowledge of the other language.

2.    APPOINTMENT AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The applicants must be a national of one of the ACP or EU States signatory to the Cotonou Agreement (79 African, Caribbean and Pacific States – http://www.acp.int/content/secretariat-acp and the European Union Member States).
Duration of the contract: 12 months (renewal possible). Gross annual income of € 32,025 mostly tax free. Comprehensive benefits package.
