The 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement demand a radical acceleration of efforts to integrate environment and climate change concerns across European Union cooperation. To support these efforts, the European Commission Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO) launched a new publication entitled “Guidelines N° 6, Integrating the environment and climate change into EU international cooperation and development: Towards sustainable development”.

In the following video, Veronique Lorenzo – Head of Unit Environment, Ecosystems, Biodiversity and Wildlife– explains why environment and climate change need to be integrated into European Union international cooperation and development as a matter of urgency, to fulfil global commitments regarding sustainable development challenges. Bernard Crabbé (Head of Environment and Mainstreaming Sector) and Eric Buhl-Nielsen (Climate Change expert) describe how the mainstreaming guidelines form part of a toolkit developed to help institutions’ staff integrating environment and climate change issues into their daily work.
