Gilbert Sendugwa is currently the head of the secretariat of the Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC) in Uganda. In the past he has worked for the ILO as a country programme coordinator among other activities. AFIC was founded following a declaration agreed to in 2006 by 30 civil society representatives from 16 African countries.

IESF members  can learn much from AFIC about how to use information to promote legal and policy frameworks in support of people dependent on the informal economy.

AFIC specificially focuses on:

  • promoting the right of access to information through comparative research,
  • coordinating regional advocacy,
  • facilitating information-sharing,
  • capacity building.
