Workshop: Approaching the concept of legal timber to Colombia

  Duringthis week the Project Positioning of forest governance in Colombia (initiative funded by the European Union and in Colombia led by CARDER) taking place in the city of Bogota workshop approach to the concept of legal timber to Colombia, which is jointly build target with different forestry experts, foreign and national, a definition adapted to the Colombian context the meaning of words: legal timber. The event willdiscuss the different interpretations of the concept of legal timber, for example: the meaning given to it from the institutions responsible for control and monitoring of natural resources and the definitions created by the communities that living of forests, among others. Similarly,the activity reflects the experiences on different topics such as: monitoring and surveillance to use, transport and timber trade, security systems, technological devices for deployment in operational control and monitoring, etc.. It is expectedthat on completion of the event, there will have a first definition of legal timber, and which also have the necessary inputs to enable the country to start forest resources sustainability processes, through the improvement and modernization of management activities forest. Remember that having a definition of legal timber landed on the characteristics of the country, is one of the requirements demanded by the European Union to start a negotiation process towards a Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA).
