Discussion details

On the basis of a new study on the issue undertaken by the European Commission, participants from EC headquarters and delegations, Permanent Representations of the Member States to the EU and cultural actors from other organisations discussed the political framework and strategies as well as examples of good practice for culture as a vector for development.

The workshop followed up the International Colloquium "Culture and Creativity – vectors for development" organized by the European Commission in Brussels last April. Both events aimed at raising awareness for the importance of culture for the identity of people, peace and stability of societies. Furthermore, speakers and participants stressed the importance of cultural sectors for socio- economic development and thus for the creation of jobs and growth.
