Discussion details

World expos are usually major international events/exhibitions for countries and organisations to present and promote their identity, policies and achievements in relation to the selected themes.  After the Shanghai Expo in 2010, the next world expo will take place in Milan from 1 May to 31 October 2015 on the theme "Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life". More than 140 countries (37 African, almost all the Asian countries) have confirmed their participation and around 20 million visitors are expected, most of them from Italy. The EU will have a 1,500 square meter pavilion, with an interactive exhibition on the first floor.

In the framework of Milan Expo, the EXPO organisers have opened a competition on best development practices on food security around 5 themes (see below).  This action, which will contributes to the establishment of the Expo Milano 2015 legacy, aims a promoting transfer of knowledge on food security, and at contributing to the identification of policies / programs and projects that really meet sustainable development criteria. A high-level international committee chaired by Prince Albert of Monaco will select the best proposals.
The five themes are :
1. Sustainable management of natural resources
2. Quantitative & qualitative enhancement of agricultural products
3. Socio-economic dynamics and global markets
4. Sustainable development of small rural communities
5. Food consumption patterns: diet, environment, society, economy and health
The 15 winning proposals will be exhibited at the entrance pavilion of the Expo (Pavilion Zero) and the best in the five categories will be filmed.
