Aid effectiveness, multilevel governance and decentralised cooperation

Given the proliferation of development actors operating at the sub-national level, it is of utmost importance to search for innovative approaches for enhanced collaboration, policy coherence and effectiveness of development actions. Decentralised cooperation, working in complementarity with the multilateral framework, brings together actions by local and regional authorities with other partners, thus breaking away from the conventional donor/beneficiary logic and providing a type of association with a fundamental added value: greater capitalisation of efforts and resources.

The UNDP, through the ART Initiative, and the Basque Government Delegation to the EU are jointly organising a conference to discuss this topic with the participation of the european institutions, regional and local governments and international networks, among other organisations.
