Car-free Day - 22 September
Event details
Description
Today, we celebrate World Car Free Day!
It's a day to leave our cars behind and embrace alternative modes of transportation like walking, biking, or public transport. By reducing our reliance on cars, we're not just cutting down on pollution and traffic congestion, but also promoting healthier and more sustainable ways of getting around.
This day also marks the end of the #EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK, the awareness-raising campaign on urban mobility, led by the European Commission. This year’s campaign was celebrated under the theme “Shared Public Space” reaffirming the importance of these spaces and the need to further improve road safety, social equity and reduce air, noise and light pollution, allowing for a better quality of life for all.
Therefore, let’s take this opportunity to appreciate our neighbourhoods without the noise and fumes of vehicles, to connect with our community, and to reduce our carbon footprint. Whether it's a short walk to the store or a bike ride to work, every small step counts towards a greener, cleaner future.
So, let's leave the keys at home, step out, and enjoy the fresh air on this Car Free Day!
