The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is pleased to invite you to the launch event for World Humanitarian Data and Trends 2014, in partnership with the Humanitarian Data Exchange.
“DATA INNOVATION IN HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE”
The way that humanitarians are accessing and using data in crises is changing. With increasing frequency, humanitarians are mining social media platforms, using remote sensing to understand disaster-affected areas, and analysing data from other sectors to understand critical challenges like language barriers, emerging trends in conflict and programming gaps. At the same time, open data platforms are allowing a broader group of people to collaborate during a response. Speakers will provide examples of these emerging practices drawing from the latest edition of OCHA's annual report World Humanitarian Data and Trends 2014 and from the Humanitarian Data Exchange platform.
This event will include:
• Opening remarks by Ms. Kyung-wha Kang, Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, OCHA
