Description
This session will be organized under the scope of UNEP International Resource Panel and will make the case for the potential of resource efficiency/decoupling policies in terms of reductions in air pollution and climate change mitigation. It will examine the potentials and limits of resource efficiency/decoupling policies in the improvement of air quality and reduced GHG generation, exploring synergies between resource efficiency and low-carbon policies and technologies, their tradeoffs and associated nexus issues as related to air pollution abatement.
The session will be comprised of a 90min slot including 3 presentations followed by a discussion and Q&A:
- Speaker 1: "Resource Efficiency and Decoupling for improved Air Quality in Europe", Prof. Jacqueline McGlade, member of the International Resource Panel
- Speaker 2: "Decoupling economic growth from air pollution and climate change", Prof. Ernst Ulrich von Weizacker, Co-Chair of the International Resource Panel
- Speaker 3: "The benefits, risks, and trade-offs of low-carbon technologies: and International Resource Panel assessment report", Prof. Edgar Hertwich, member of the International Resource Panel
- Open discussion and Q&A moderated by: Mr. Arab Hoballah, SCP Chief, UNEP DTIE
