DEVCO at the European Culture Forum 2016

The European Culture Forum gathered a large number of the sector's key players globally to raise the profile of European cultural cooperation and to debate on EU culture policy and initiatives in Brussels on 19-20 April. The flash session on "Culture & Development" filled the room, attracting close to 100 participants. Aida Liha Matejicek, Head of Unit DEVCO/B4, exchanged with the audience on the role of culture in development cooperation and shared DEVCO's experience e.g. of supporting creative industries as vectors of economic growth and of successfully using culture as a reconciliation tool in sensitive environments.

The timing of the Culture Forum coincides with the finalization of a joint EEAS/EC Communication on a EU Strategy for Culture in International Relations, scheduled to be adopted in late spring.
