E-waste Challenge MOOC live event: Using international standards to tackle the e-waste challenge, ITU
Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (hosted by UNEP)
Event details
Description
Electronic waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. The harmful effects of improper disposal of e-waste are well-documented, ranging from the release of hazardous substances to the environment to increasing risks to human health. The sustainable management of e-waste constitutes an important step towards a circular economy, which is a crucial concept for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production.
Join us in this Webinar to learn more about the distinct advantages of using international standards to manage e-waste. The leading ICT experts at the International Telecommunication Union have been working closely with its diverse memberships to develop international standards (i.e. ITU-T Recommendations) that support the sustainable management of e-waste. From developing a comprehensive e-waste management framework to implementing extended producer responsibility policies, these standards can help to tackle the e-waste challenge and turn it into an opportunity for all.
