The 2016 edition of Green Week, the biggest annual occasion to debate and discuss European environment policy, will take place from Monday, 30 May to Friday, 3 June. It will focus on the theme "Investing for a greener future". Over the course of these five days, five different topics will be touched upon – one for each day.
UNEP will be organizing several events which will be part of this year’s Green Week. One event will take place in Vienna, Switzerland, on 3 June while two other events will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 1 June 2016.
The Green Fiscal Policy Network, a joint partnership between UNEP, GIZ and IMF which aims to facilitate knowledge sharing, learning and dialogue on fiscal policies to support the inclusive green economy, will organize an event entitled “Making Paris Happen – The role of fiscal policies for a low-carbon, inclusive green economy” on Tuesday 31 May. This event will examine how fiscal policies can support implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement by raising revenues for green investment and shifting incentives.
Nick Robins, Co-Director of UNEP Inquiry, will be part of the closing session on 'Greening Financial Systems Globally' which is to take place on 1 June 2016. High-level participants at this session from the EU will be Daniel Calleja Crespo, Director-General for Environment, European Commission, Karmenu Vella, Director-General for the Environment and Olivier Guersent, Director-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, European Commission.
On 3 June UNEP will be involved in the Green Week closing session in Vienna, Switserland. Jan Dusik, Director and Regional Representative, UNEP, Regional Office for Europe, will give an opening address. Other high-level participants include Karmenu Vella, Director-General for the Environment and Mr Andrä Rupprechter, Austrian Minister of the Environment.
