European Development Days 2016: Assessing sustainable development in global value chains
CIRAD, ACP
Event details
Description
This session will feature the needs and views of different tropical value chain actors and will discuss innovative solutions developed by multistakeholder alliances. Practical examples and methodologies will be showcased, including the roundtable for sustainable palm oil; impact investments in cocoa and coffee based agroforestry clusters in Latin America; and green and social accounting in cotton value chains.
Agriculture has a major role to play in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Investment in sustainable and inclusive agriculture based value chains, both local and global, demands integrated impact assessment and monitoring frameworks. Current methodologies for supporting and assessing value chain development only partially provide measurable approaches that consider environmental, social and economic aspects.
