Fifth meeting of the Expert Working Group (EWG5) on environmentally sound management
Event details
Description
Highlight: The fifth meeting of the expert working group on environmentally sound management (ESM) is expected to consider the outcomes of the tenth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG-10) that took place from 30 May to 2 June 2016 in Nairobi, to progress the development of the set of practical manuals, the fact sheets, and the guidance document on prevention and minimisation. It will also discuss pilot projects already commenced by the group and continue developing new activities under its work programme. The group will notably consider and further advance suggestions to improve the internet portal of the expert working group and the development of an e-learning tool on ESM. It is also expected to progress the work on the checklist for self-assessment of national ESM capacity and evaluate information received from parties on national initiatives to promote ESM in the informal sector. Finally, the meeting will serve to set the timeline of activities of the group prior to the sixth meeting of the expert working group and the thirteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
The European Union and the Government of Switzerland are kindly co-funding the fifth face-to-face meeting of the group. The meeting has been organised by the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, in collaboration with the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Training and Technology Transfer for Central Europe (BCRC-Slovakia).
