#GreeningEUcooperation: World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought

On the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought we would like to share with you the example of The Great Green Wall initiative. This ambitious project, to which the EU has been firmly committed since its very start, is bringing life back to Africa’s degraded landscapes at an unprecedented scale, providing food security, jobs and a reason to stay for the millions who live along its path. Momentum has been renewed in recent years and the initiative goes beyond simply planting trees.

The Great Green Wall Accelerator is supporting donor and member state coordination, fund mapping, and capacity building to monitor and track progress towards achieving the project's ambitions by 2030.

Moreover, the Great Green Wall Accelerator will play a crucial role across the Sahel in scaling up efforts to increase food security, create jobs, boost local economies, and build the resilience of communities, smallholder farmers and agri-businesses by improving sustainable land management and adaptation to climate change impacts.
