UN HLPF
Event details
Description
The 2024 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) marks the 12th edition of this pivotal event, scheduled to take place from Monday, 8 July to Thursday, 18 July 2024, under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
This year's HLPF will revolve around the theme "Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: The effective delivery of sustainable, resilient, and innovative solutions." This theme underscores the urgent need for comprehensive and innovative approaches to address the pressing challenges of our time.
During the forum, there will be an in-depth review of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere
- Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture
- Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
- Goal 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels amongst others.
The HLPF will convene in two parts: from July 8th to July 12th and from July 15th to July 18th, with a three-day ministerial segment during the second week. This segment will be a crucial component of the high-level segment of the Council, providing a platform for ministerial engagement and decision-making.
The HLPF serves as the main UN platform on sustainable development, facilitating the follow-up and review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs. With participation from all UN Member States and civil society organisations, the forum provides a vital space for collaboration, exchange, and collective action towards sustainable development.
