ILO/EC Project Monitoring and Assessing Progress on Decent Work (MAP) - final conference

This high-level meeting will be a key occasion to discuss with the main international development partners on the role of employment for development, and within the post-2015 agenda. The event constitutes the final conference of the EC-ILO joint project "Monitoring and assessing progress on decent work". The objective of the project is to develop a global methodology to promote better self-monitoring of decent work outcomes in developing and transition countries world-wide. It has been implemented in several pilot countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Ukraine, Peru, Brazil, Niger and Zambia. The event will serve to discuss the project experience and challenges ahead to support partner countries in meeting the employment challenge.

1. The Conference will open with a general discussion on the role of employment and decent work for development. The link with the post-2015 debate and the next programming cycle will be strongly made;

2. Project conclusions and lessons learnt. How the project has managed to support partner countries in self-assessing progress on the different dimensions of decent work, lessons learnt and challenges ahead. Presentation of project outcomes and discussion on similar processes on measuring/monitoring decent work at the regional level: EU, SADC, MERCOSUR, ASEAN.

3. How development cooperation could continue and scale-up support to partner countries on promoting decent work through effective employment policies, as well as through policies in other sectors of development (agriculture and rural development, private sector development or energy). This part will also look at how the work of the project on decent work indicators could be useful for development practitioners to monitor and evaluate development cooperation strategies and programmes/projects. The conference will end up with a technical side-to-side meeting between EU and ILO services to discuss more in detail these aspects.
