International Day of Clean Energy | 26 January 2025

The International Day of Clean Energy aims to raise awareness and spur action towards a fair and inclusive transition to clean energy, benefiting both people and the planet. Clean energy is pivotal in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and providing communities with access to reliable, sustainable power sources.

Sustainable Development Goal 7 (#SDG7), which focuses on affordable and clean energy, seeks to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy by 2030. However, the world is currently off track to meet this goal, with 675 million people still lacking access to electricity. Notably, four out of five of these individuals reside in sub-Saharan Africa. The Day highlights the essential role clean energy plays in combating climate change, emphasising the need to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon pollution, and ensure universal access to sustainable energy.
