Description
International symposium and workshops: "Tools for Integrated natural resources management in Africa" - 16th May 2014, Delft – The Netherlands
The AfroMaison project was funded under the FP7-AFRICA-2010 call which was launched by the European Commission to address some of the Science & Technology objectives of the 'Joint Africa - EU Strategic Partnership'. The aim of the call to which to project responded was to contribute to bringing Integrated Natural Resource Management into practice in Africa. In a consortium of 15 partners we have worked on 5 case studies across Africa (Tunisia, Mali, Ethiopia, Uganda and South Africa) to develop and test tools and approaches to improve INRM planning at meso-scale in Africa. The results are compiled in a toolbox and guidance documents.
Workshops will be given on AfroMaison tools and approaches, including tools for Spatial planning, tools for choosing and fitting incentives in NRM strategies, tools for managing and sharing spatial data, and a special session on participatory planning for INRM with demonstrations on using WAT-A-Game (Mpan’Game, Uganda), COOPLAN and other participatory planning tools.
During these events we aim to share lessons learnt among natural resource management projects in Africa, and encourage further work in this area through collaboration between institutions in Africa and in Europe. We will therefore will also welcome the participation of experts, decision makers or managers both from Africa and the EU.
