This lecture by Julia Gillard will look at the most common reasons why children miss out on a basic education and what the global community must do to ensure that the right of every child to a quality education is upheld. The lecture will be introduced by Mr. Klaus Rudischhauser, Deputy Director General, of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development and Prof. Dr. Paul De Knop, Rector of VUB University. Closing remarks will be presented by Ms. Tove Wang, CEO of Save the Children Norway.
The Kapuscinski Development Lectures offer students and other participants an unprecedented opportunity to learn and discuss about development issues. On the 11th of February, the lecture will be dedicated to Education for Development with the participation of Julia Gillard.
Ms. Gillard will speak about the challenges of global education financing, the role of developing country governments and our responsibility as global citizens. She will also outline why education is critical for development and helps lay the foundations for social well-being, economic growth and security, gender equality and peace.
The Kapuscinski Development Lectures are contributing to the European Year for Development 2015.
