Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 16)
United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity
Event details
Description
This year's Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 16) will bring together key global stakeholders to address critical biodiversity issues. The event will feature the 16th COP meeting, the 11th meeting under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, and the 5th meeting under The Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing. A high-level ministerial segment will also be part of the agenda.
Taking place after the landmark adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at COP 15 in 2022, COP 16 will focus on reviewing progress and ensuring that national strategies align with the Framework. Discussions will also advance monitoring mechanisms, resource mobilisation, and finalise a system for fair and equitable sharing of benefits from digital sequence information on genetic resources.
