Dear memebers of the ALFA community,
on behalf of the OportUnidad project consortium, I have the pleasure to inform you and invite you to the upcoming OportUnidad Open Day event that the project is organizing in San Josè (Costa Rica) on December 7th, 2012.
What: OportUnidad Open Day Event
When: December 7th, 2012 – hrs 13.00 - 17.00
Where: Holiday Inn San Jose Downtown Aurola | 5th Avenue and 5th Street | San Jose, Costa Rica
Why: This event will provide participants with an overview of the results of the first year of project aimed at promoting the adoption of Open Educational Practices (OEP) in Latin America as a means of equal and democratic access to knowledge. The main idea is also to leave room for discussion and exchange of ideas among participants around the uptake of actions to foster openness in education in the region.
Who: The event is organised by the OportUnidad team at the Universidad Estatal a Distancia in Costa Rica. The event will gather academics and researchers from Europe and Latin America, UNED’s faculty members, institutional representative and the Vice-Ministry of Science and Technology of Costa Rica for the launch of a Research Observatory at UNED dealing with ICT and openness in education. OportUnidad is supported by the European Commission under the ALFA III programme.

OportUnidad stands for “Open educational practices: a bottom-up approach in Latin America and Europe to develop a common Higher Education Area”. It is an action-research project with the aim of promoting the adoption of Open Educational Practices (OEP) in Latin America.
Partners and Support: OportUnidad is led by a group of universities from both Latin America and Europe: Universidade Federal Fluminense (Brazil), the Universidad Estatal a Distancia (Costa Rica), the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (Ecuador), the Fundación Uvirtual (Bolivia), the Universidad Virtual del Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), the Universidad de la Empresa (Uruguay), the Universidad Inca Garcilaso de la Vega (Peru) and the EAFIT University (Colombia). The European partners are the Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi (Italy) (Project Coordinator), the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Spain), the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal) and the University of Oxford (UK). OportUnidad is supported by the European Union under the EuropeAid ALFA III programme.
