The regional meeting is an opportunity to review the main discussions and outcomes of the African Union – European Union summit in Abidjan held in November 2017, and look at the implications going forward. Specifically, the regional meeting will look at the summit's recommendations concerning youth, peace and security, mobility and migration, and governance. The regional meeting in Africa will also look specifically at the progress of the Contonou Agreement renewal and the state of the working environment for civil society and local authorities in the region.
The 2.5-day dialogue will bring together different stakeholder groups from countries across Africa. The meeting will have several overall objectives:
1. Expose regional participants to the PFD and explain its ways of working with the aim of increasing engagement
2. Establish mechanisms for networking and consultation within and across networks of CSOs and LAs of the region for input into the PFD
3. Discuss issues of key concern for participants as relate to the AU-EU partnership and EU development policy as addressed by the PFD agenda
