Regional consultations for the strengthening of the Institutions for Transboundary Water Management in Africa (SITWA)

The support group of the EUWI AWG will attend two regional consultations taking place on June 13-14 and 17-18 in Brazzaville, Congo, and Nairobi, Kenya, respectively. The consultations happen at the inception phase of an EU-financed project aiming at strengthening regional cooperation for the sustainable management of transboundary water resources in Africa. The project is implemented by the Global Water Partnership in partnership with the Technical Secretariat of the African Network of Basin Organisations (ANBO).

The consultations will enable the River Basin Organisations in Africa, the Regional Economic Commissions and other key stakeholders to provide their inputs in the process of designing ANBO as a pillar under the African Ministers´ Council on Water (AMCOW) and preparing ANBO´s programme. The consultations in Brazzaville and Nairobi will help identify activities based on the real needs of the River Basin Organisations, the Regional Economic Commissions, the African Union and the AMCOW.

Consultations régionales pour le renforcement de la gestion des eaux transfrontalières en Afrique

Des membres de l´équipe de soutien du Groupe de Travail Afrique de l´IEE participeront à deux consultations régionales qui se tiendront les 13 et 14 juin à Brazzaville et les 17 et 18 juin à Nairobi.  Les consultations sont organisées dans le cadre de la phase initiale d´un projet financé par l´Union européenne visant à renforcer la coopération régionale en Afrique pour une gestion pérenne des ressources en eaux transfrontalières. Le projet est mis en œuvre par le Conseil Mondial de l´Eau en partenariat avec le secrétariat technique du Réseau africain des Organismes de Bassin.

Ces consultations permettront aux organismes de bassin transfrontaliers, aux Commissions économiques régionales et autres parties prenantes de contribuer au processus qui devra aboutir à donner au Réseau africain des Organismes de Bassin une place centrale sous l´autorité du Conseil des Ministres africains chargés de l´Eau et à définir son programme de travail. Les consultations à Brazzaville et Nairobi devraient permettre de définir les interventions ciblant les besoins véritables des organismes de bassin, des Commissions économiques régionales, de l´Union africaine et du Conseil des Ministres africains chargés de l´Eau.
