At a UN global summit in September 2015 world leaders shall adopt the Post-2015 agenda for sustainable development, building on the Millennium Development Goals, integrating them with the broader objectives of global sustainable development and establishing a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. However, there are still challenges to face if the Post-2015 summit is to be a success. On 5 February the Commission issued a Communication on A Global Partnership for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development after 2015 describing key issues to be tackled. The Council will define its position in May. At the UN headquarters inter-governmental negotiations have started. The outcome of the 3rd International Conference on Finance for Development in July will be crucial for the Post-2015 agenda.
You are kindly invited to public event on 14 April Setting the agenda for a sustainable future - the road to the UN summit on the Post-2015 agenda. With this event the Sustainable Development Observatory wishes to raise political awareness of the Post-2015 agenda and provide a forum for a discussion between political decision-makers and civil society. Klaus Rudischhauser, Deputy Director-General, DG DEVCO, European Commission will present the roadmap to the summit. Maryam Niamir-Fuller, Special Advisor on Post-2015 of the UNEP's Executive Director and Kitty van der Heyden, World Resources Insitute, will discuss key elements of Post-2015 framework. Representatives from civil society organisations will put forward their views on the Commission Communication and discuss with the Commission and the Council presidency.
