Sixth Meeting of the CBD Subsidiary Body on Implementation

The sixth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will review implementation of the CBD in advance of the next Conference of the Parties (COP). CBD COP 17 is expected to take place in 2026, in Armenia.

In Decision XII/12, the CBD COP established the SBI to replace the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Review of Implementation of the Convention, with the terms of reference contained in the annex to decision XII/26.

The four functions and core areas of work of the SBI consist of: (a) review of progress in implementation; (b) strategic actions to enhance implementation; (c) strengthening means of implementation; and (d) operations of the convention and the Protocols. The Bureau of the Conference of the Parties serves as the Bureau of the SBI.
