About Team Europe MAV+
Strengthening health systems around the world is a pillar of the EU's Global Gateway strategy and the Team Europe Initiative on Manufacturing and Access to Vaccines, Medicines and Health Technologies in Africa (MAV+).
MAV+ is a comprehensive support package tackling barriers to manufacturing and access to health products and technologies in Africa that is tightly aligned with African strategies and priorities. Its overall objective is to facilitate access to quality, safe, effective and affordable health products as outlined in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal Target 3.8.
MAV+ members include the European Commission, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
MAV+ and equitable access to health products
Access to quality-assured, safe, and affordable health products remains a critical barrier to achieving Universal Health Coverage across Africa. Challenges around regulation, pricing, procurement, and distribution often result in disparities that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations.
The Team Europe Initiative MAV+ supports 360° approach to strengthening both local manufacturing and equitable access to medicines and health products.
