Event details
Description
We are pleased to inform you about the upcoming Trade and private sector development (TPSD) seminar (30 January - 02 February, Syslog 514799) and the training on Inclusive Green Economy (03 February, Syslog 514778), which will be organized back-to-back in Brussels.
Trade and private sector development (TPSD) are widely recognized to be key drivers for poverty reduction. A competitive private sector creates jobs and incomes, and generates tax revenues which allow the public sector to play its role as regulator, facilitator and provider of social services, including safety nets for the poorest. Undeniably, the challenges associated with the validation of private sector's role as an actor in delivering the Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals are expected to be an important part of our work for the years to come. We are passing from supporting private sector through enabling environment to building engagement frameworks with the private sector, formal or informal, in order to better synchronise the necessary global effort for the delivery of the SDGs.
The private sector is also seen as playing a key role in the transformation to an inclusive green economy as envisioned at the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development, as well as in the formulation and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which puts greater emphasis on environmental sustainability and its links to economic growth, for example through SDG 12 on Sustainable Consumption and Production.
The linkages and synergies between both courses offer a unique opportunity for colleagues in Delegations and HQ across all sectors of cooperation and financing instruments to be up to date on relevant developments:
The Seminar on Trade and private sector development (30 January - 02 February) will provide the overall policy context for TPSD assistance (including EU market access rules and the commitments made under the Aid for Trade initiative) as well as input on specific topics (Private sector engagement, Private sector and green economy, Access to finance and financial inclusion, use of EU blending instruments, Private Sector Development and competitiveness and innovation, Aid for Trade and in particular Trade Facilitation).
The training on Inclusive Green Economy (03 February) will provide a presentation of the green economy concept, the opportunities brought by the green economy transformation to achieve development objectives as well as practical ideas and tools to apply green economy principles across relevant sectors of cooperation.
The course is aimed at DEVCO staff and DG NEAR staff managing ENI cooperation, both in Delegations and Headquarters, as well as at IPA colleagues working in Delegations.
It is also open, according to availability of seats (i.e. on a 2nd priority), to colleagues from other DGs.
Participants from the EC and EEAS should register in SYSLOG as soon as possible.
