UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030)
UNEP and FAO
Event details
Description
2021 marks the start of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The next 10 years are critical for averting climate change and the loss of millions of species and critical ecosystems happening worldwide. The purpose of our initial actions is to raise awareness and invite thousands to join us in the global movement #GenerationRestoration to ramp up restoration and put the world on track for a sustainable future.
Led by the United Nations Environment Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, for the benefit of people and nature. It runs from 2021 through 2030, which is also the deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals. The Decade will be officially launched on World Environment Day 2021 (5 June).
Through communications, events and a dedicated web platform, the UN Decade will provide a hub for everyone interested in restoration to find projects, partners, funding and the knowledge they need to make their restoration efforts a success.
Moreover, we think that the voice of the youth is fundamental for a great change. We are looking forward to working with you to identify how to give young people the opportunity to state their point of view and their visions regarding the most important actions to be taken for the restoration and conservation of the ecosystem, and a way to be key leading actors of the movement!
By joining the campaign we aim at getting huge number of individuals, companies helping advance the restoration agenda by persuading others of the benefits of protecting and restoring nature and showing them how this can be done.
There are multiple ways you can get involved. Here are some suggestions:
- Join #GenerationRestoration. Generate continued momentum for the UN Decade by using #GenerationRestoration on relevant social media.
- Use the UN Decade’s Visual Identity on your website, social media, printed on a poster or a T-Shirt, or on a sign at your restoration site etc. A recent example of a billboard comes from the Scohaboy Bog Natura2000 site in Ireland.
- Make it your own: We have designed our Visual Identity so you can use it however you want. You can even modify it to show what restoration means to you. Read more about it in our brand guide.
- Help us spread the word: Use our social media cards, sample messaging, animated visual identity and more to spread the word about the UN Decade and help us have materials translated in many European languages.
- Get involved in World Environment Day (WED) by organizing an activity, initiating discussions, in support of the official launch of the UN Decade. World Environment Day 2021 material will be available on the website in the near future and will include a map to promote your activity.
- We want to hear from you! By filling out this survey, you will help us design the tools and platforms needed to build a #GenerationRestoration.
In addition, the strategy of the UN Decade highlights ten actions that can build a #GenerationRestoration.
