Objectives of the course

The objectives of the course are the following:

• To be informed about the importance of Non-Timber Forest Products (including wood fuel) and related value chains, the roles of men and women, and challenges and opportunities for development of the value chains.

• To know how NTFPs relate to Sustainable Forest Management and contribute to incomes, jobs and livelihoods, and the Green Economy.

• To be inspired by examples of EU and non-EU supported NTFP value chain programmes.

Content

The webinar will cover:

• The nature and importance of non-timber forest products and value chains in the partner countries (contribution to incomes, jobs, livelihoods and the Green Economy).

• Global and local development challenges and opportunities in developing non-timber forest product value chains, including the roles of men and women.

• Non-wood and wood products in relation to Sustainable Forest Management.

• Options for EU support in developing sustainable non-timber forest product value chains, and how to ensure that these deliver the desired products and impacts – jobs, income, resilience – while maintaining healthy forests.

• Realities, options and opportunities for greener charcoal in Sub Saharan Africa.

• Development impacts and lessons learned in the shea value chain.

• The webinar will be supported by case studies of specific value chains, recent innovations and best practices.

Target audience

All EU Delegations targeted by DG INTPA, in particular the EUDs in 25 countries with an interest in a Forest Partnership, INTPA geographic and thematic units, other relevant DGs (e.g. Environment, Trade, Clima, Agri), selected external participants.
