Description
This World Environment Day, learn how all living things on Earth are connected in the web of life and how we can act #ForNature
World Environment Day, celebrated on 5 June, is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. Since it began in 1974, the event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. Above all, World Environment Day is the "people's day" for doing something to take care of the Earth. That "something" can be local, national or global. It can be a solo action or involve a crowd. Everyone is free to choose.
Each World Environment Day is organized around a theme that draws attention to a particularly pressing environmental concern. The theme for 2020 is biodiversity. Biodiversity – the variety of life forms in any given habitat, from large animals to plants to fungi to the smallest of organisms – is threatened like never before. World Environment Day 2020 is issuing a call to urgent action to protect biodiversity. The theme of World Environment Day 2020 – mutually agreed by The UN Environment Programme and Colombia, this year’s host in partnership with Germany – invites us all to consider how we can make changes to our everyday lives to to draw attention to the need for restoring nature and reversing biodiversity loss.
