Event details
Description
World Environment Day will be celebrated around the world on June 5th around the theme #BeatPlasticPollution.
In Brussels, Bruxelles Environnement organized a 3 day Festival de l'environnement from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 June.
On 3 June, the UN participated with an infobooth at the Fete de l'environnement in the Parc du Cinquantennaire. The event was around Zero Waste, while the UN Stand centered around the global World Environment Day theme to beat plastic pollution, showcasing UN Environment's Clean Seas campaign to eliminate single use plastics and microplastics, through a collaboration with Volvo Ocean Race, the UN Regional Information Centre, and in association with the European Commission (DG Envi and DG Mare) who provided information material on the EU Plastics Strategy and their recent Beach Clean Up in Belgium.
In addition, the visitors could view an exhibition on reconnecting people with nature in cities organized by Revolve through the #ForestCityProject in partnership with UN Environment.
''On [this] World Environment Day, the message is simple: reject single-use plastic. Refuse what you can’t re-use,'' said António Guterres, UN Secretary General. See his full video message here.
If you couldn't attend but want to show you are committed to reduce, reuse and even refuse plastic, and want to do it in a fun way, we invite you to take part in our social media Tag it game and/or sign our clean seas pledge.
