Top Five Updates 1. Barbados, a Caribbean small island and a solar energy pioneer, will host this year's WED global celebrations on 5 June 2014! 2. Greening the Blue, UN Women, UNFCCC, Sustainable Energy for All Initiative (SE4All), 10YFP are all showing solidarity for the islands and for the environment. 3. Millions are viewing and reading WED messages at NY Times Square, London’s Piccadilly Circus and Waterloo train station, Beijing International Airport, Origin magazine, Huffington Post, cinemas in the Middle East and many more! 4. From the Secretary-General to the Baltimore Orioles pitcher Darren O’Day and the Barbados Prime Minister, prominent voices have spoken for the islands. As 5 June approaches, more will show solidarity for them, including Astronaut Alexander Gerst @Astro_Alex at the International Space Station, Patron of the Oceans Lewis Pugh, photojournalists, musicians and many others. 5. From children pledging to purge plastics in Nepal, diplomats biking in Geneva, college students planting trees in Ethiopia, a marine-themed festival in Sarasota, Florida, thousands of schools, businesses and governments have registered their activities from all continents! Five Ways to Take Action for WED! 1. Thousands have joined UNEP Goodwill Ambassadors Don Cheadle, Gisele Bündchen, Yaya Touré and Ian Somerhalder. With more than 3000 pledges there’s still time to join your chosen team -- Power Down, Reduce Food Waste, Purge Plastics or Go Greener!
2. Join the WED community from India, Australia, US, Spain, UK, Singapore, Grenada, Brazil, Barbados, Mexico, Argentina and more who have signed up.
3. Greening the Blue Invites UN staff to Raise Your Voice for WED 2014 If you live or work on a small island, or have visited an island that you loved, or have tales to tell about sea level rise, or stories about how a small island is adapting to climate change – Greening the Blue wants to hear from you. Post your story, in no more than 150 words, at www.facebook.com/greeningtheblue, or email greeningtheblue@gmail.com - and feel free to share a photo if you have one. 4. Every little step counts: Among the materials available to help celebrate WED is an e-mail signature, available at http://www.unep.org/signature_imgs/email_signature.gif. 5.
