Event details
Description
World Wetlands Day 2025 will center on the theme "Wetlands and People," emphasizing the essential link between healthy wetlands and human well-being—environmental, mental, and physical.
2025 is especially relevant since the COP15 for wetlands will take place from 23 to 31 July. In this meeting, held every 3 years, the signatory parties of the Convention on Wetlands will meet to agree a three-year plan for the conservation and defense of these valuable ecosystems.
Wetlands encompass freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems, including lakes, rivers, swamps, marshes, peatlands, estuaries, deltas, tidal flats, mangroves, coral reefs, and underground aquifers. These ecosystems are vital for their inherent value and the numerous benefits they provide, supporting human well-being and sustainable development. However, wetlands face rapid decline, loss, and degradation, disappearing at a rate three times faster than forests, highlighting the urgent need for their protection and restoration.
To contribute to restoration and protection efforts, we invite you to read the Quick Tips: Working with Nature.
