2015 and beyond - FAO and partners working together to support the implementation of the VGGTs
The Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT) represent an unprecedented international consensus on principles and practices to improve the governance of tenure. They were endorsed in May 2012 during the Committee on Food Security. The newletter present the status of their implementation.
The importance of improving the lives of billions of people by protecting and enhancing their legitimate tenure rights is being recognized in the discussions leading towards the Sustainable Development Goals for the post-2015 agenda. The VGGT provide the reference for work to ensure that a wide range of people – including small-scale food producers, women, indigenous peoples, family farmers, pastoralists and fishers – are able to benefit from secure and equitable tenure rights.
