2023 Budget Support - Trends & Results report published!
In 2022 EU budget support payment amounted to EUR 1.8 billion globally.
The European neighbourhood became the largest recipient of budget support (38 %), followed by sub-Saharan Africa (24 %), Asia (18 %), the western Balkans (8 %), Latin America (6 %), the Caribbean (2 %), overseas countries/territories (2 %) and the Pacific region (2 %).
In 2022, EU budget support continued to cover a large variety of sectors (basically all SDGs) and geographies (88 countries or overseas territories). This is illustrated through 33 country cases highlighting EU budget support contribution to policy results.
Budget support payments accounted for 15 % of the overall payments by the Commission within the framework of the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI – Global Europe) and the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA III), the decision on the overseas association including Greenland (DOAG) or under predecessor instruments.
