This document summarises the background and other information about the Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC) which started its operations in 2010. AFIC’s interventions seek to create knowledge around Access to Information (ATI), improve policy environment, and strengthen capacities of CSOs with ultimate goals of empowering ordinary people to demand their rights. This is important for many types of CSOs, including those working with people dependent on the informal economy.
Results show that human rights like health, education, and food are enhanced through the application of the right of access to information at community, national, and international level. It also shows that access to information and citizen participation increase value for money in public contracts and services. It adds details about the type of actions it has undertaken as indicated in an overview of activities carried out between 2010 ans 2014.
