ACF Technical Newsletter - Integration of Food Security & Livelihoods, and Nutrition Interventions
Dear all,
Please find attached ACF’s Technical Newsletter August 2013 - Special Edition on the integration and alignment of Food Security & Livelihood, and Nutrition interventions.
Following the latest Lancet Series (2013), leading nutrition experts emphasized that effective, large-scale nutrition-sensitive programs that address key underlying determinants of nutrition are essential to accelerating progress to reduce undernutrition and associated mortality, alongside enhanced coverage and greater effectiveness of nutrition-specific interventions.
This newsletter features some recent innovative nutrition-sensitive ACF programmes in a range of contexts:
· Nutrition Sensitive Assessments - Nutritional Causal Analysis in Chad and Surveillance in Burkina Faso – providing key insights for revising the strategy in tackling undernutrition and monitoring seasonality of undernutrition and its risk factors.
· Nutrition Sensitive Cash based interventions – Social protection in Nigeria and prevention of micronutrient deficiencies in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, supporting some of the most nutritionally at risk populations and contributing to the evidence base on the nutritional impact of cash transfers.
· Nutrition Sensitive Household Production - Homestead gardens in Afghanistan, Central African Republic and Myanmar enhancing nutrition awareness, food security and nutrition status of the most vulnerable families.
· Nutrition Sensitive full integration - Pakistan applying a fully integrated approach following its 2010 emergency response and learning key lessons on how to better align sectors around the same objective.
Lastly, we had the great pleasure to interview Anna Herforth, a specialist on Agriculture-Nutrition linkages, on the current international policy debates and progress linking agriculture with nutrition on international level.
Please feel free to share the newsletter with your teams, colleagues and other interested partners. We welcome any feedback or follow up questions you may have!
Enjoy the reading!
Best wishes,
Julien
