Convention on fishing and conservation of the living resources of the high seas (Geneva, 1958)
The Convention on Fishing and Conservation of Living Resources of the High Seas is an agreement that was designed to solve through international cooperation the problems involved in the conservation of living resources of the high seas, considering that because of the development of modern technology some of these resources are in danger of being overexploited.
The nature of the problems involved in the conservation of the living resources of the high seas is such that there is a clear necessity that they be solved, whenever possible, on the basis of international cooperation through the concerted action of all the States concerned.
The convention underlines the rights and duty of States on the living ressources of the high Seas with the major concern of providing a maximum supply of food and other marine products. So as to, States must consider measures to allow a sustainable exploitation of the high seas.
The convention was open for signature on April 1958 and entered into force on March 1966.
