Copenhagen: Political immobility faced with citizen mobilisation

This article analyses the Copenhagen Conference, comparing the viewpoints of French environmental and international solidarity NGOs, who worked together for a stronger voice on the issues of international solidarity in climate negotiations. The first chapter reviews the main points of the Copenhagen Agreement and prospects for further negotiations in 2010. The second chapter deals with the new geopolitical situation that became apparent in Copenhagen through changes in the traditional balance of power, the citizen mobilization and issues of governance. The last chapter analyses the discussions from a more operational viewpoint, on three technical subjects, namely adaptation, agriculture and forests, in order to identify the issues for international solidarity that will need to be dealt with in the near future.
