Last week on December 3rd and 4th 2024, the African Wildlife Foundation facilitated a pivotal stakeholders' meeting in Dja, East Cameroon, bringing together 85 representatives, including the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, local and international NGOs, Bantou and Baka communities, and key funders European Union in Cameroon and UNESCO Cameroon.
Over the two days, participants addressed critical challenges in the Dja Faunal Reserve, such as poaching, deforestation, and human rights concerns. The discussions resulted in a unified commitment to strengthen collaboration and create a comprehensive action plan for improved reserve management.
The meeting also marked the official launch of the European Union EU-funded Natura Sud-Est project, a transformative initiative designed to enhance the management efficiency of the Dja Faunal Reserve while tackling conservation and community challenges.
AWF extends its gratitude to EU Cameroon and UNESCO Cameroon for their leadership and support, which made this milestone possible. This event exemplifies the power of multi-stakeholder partnerships in driving impactful and inclusive conservation solutions.
