Disability and Poverty in Developing Countries: A Snapshot from the World Health Survey
World Bank’s Human Development Network Social Protection (HDNSP) Disability and Development team has published a discussion paper entitled “Disability and Poverty in Developing Countries: A Snapshot from the World Health Survey”. The study presents an overview of economic and poverty situation of working-age persons with disabilities and their households in 15 developing countries, using data collected by the World Health Organization from 2002 to 2004. The study finds that in the majority of countries examined, persons with disabilities have significantly lower educational attainment and employment rates compared to those without disabilities.
