Forests in a Changing Climate: A Sourcebook for Integrating REDD+ into Academic Programmes

Publication Date: 2014
Forests are critical ecosystems in terms of biodiversity conservation and the benefits they provide. However, deforestation and forest degradation account for 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions leading to climate change. The REDD+ mechanism focuses on ‘reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks’.
REDD+ seeks to build and maintain natural capital, and to transition to sustainable management of forests by, among others, identifying strategic options for improved land-use and better forest management based on sound scientific evidence and technical advice.
‘Forests in a Changing Climate: Sourcebook for REDD+’ provides an overview of the key topics related to forests and climate change, under the overarching and evolving REDD+ narrative. The purpose of the book is to facilitate the integration of REDD+ knowledge into university programmes.
