Gender in Humanitarian Aid: Different Needs, Adapted Assistance
In line with the European Consensus on Humanitarian Aid and following recommendations from a Gender Review, ECHO has outlined its approach to gender and gender-based violence in the Staff Working Document Gender in Humanitarian Aid: Different Needs, Adapted Assistance (SWD(2013)290 final). This policy document was adopted in July 2013 and all aid projects funded through the EU humanitarian budget are expected to follow the guidance mentioned in this paper. This document aims to imporve the quality of humanitarian assistance through actions that effectively respond to the specific needs of women, girls, boys and men. This will be achieved through gender integration, participation and protection. In order to support policy implementation and coherence, a gender-age marker was designed to foster and track gender- and age- sensitive programming and will be applied to all funded actions from 2014.
