Impact of social protection on gender equality in low - and middle‐income countries: A systematic review of reviews
This systematic review compiles and analyses the findings from 70 systematic reviews on the gender-differentiated impacts of social protection programmes in low- and middle-income countries. It examines various types of social protection, including social assistance, social insurance, labour market programmes, and social care services. The primary aim is to understand how these interventions influence gender equality outcomes, such as economic security, health, education, labour market participation, and empowerment of individuals. Additionally, the review highlights contextual and structural factors that shape these impacts and identifies design and implementation features associated with gender outcomes. The findings contribute to informing public policies and programmes aimed at promoting gender equality in development contexts.
